Preparation of Personal Self Assessment Tax Returns and tax calculations for PAYE employees for filing on line with HMRC
As an individual in receipt of PAYE income you may need to submit a tax return to be filed with HMRC
This should be filed on line at the very latest by 31st January after the end of the tax year which is 5th April. (Paper returns by 31st October)
Under the PAYE system a lot of people assume that as tax is being deducted all is correct and all is in order. Unfortunately it is not uncommon for underpayments and overpayments of tax to occur.
Underpayments can usually be collected by means of an adjustment to your PAYE code to collect the underpayment over a period of time to “ease the pain” rather than have to pay the liability in a single payment. Ignoring it could only worsen your position and HMRC don’t give up !!!
Overpayments can be paid directly into your nominated bank account by HMRC after submission of your tax return on line.
